Cougar Still at Large? Camera Fails to Catch the Cat

Officials aren’t ruling out the possibility of a cougar roaming the north shore even though the camera drew a blank.

After multiple unconfirmed sightings of a potential cougar in the north shore, Glencoe Public Safety’s attempts at catching the cat on film remain unsuccessful. Glencoe’s Animal Control Specialist Katie Sweeney said police installed a “cougar cam” at Dell Beach, only to be taken down after two weeks because it only captured photos of wildlife native to the village. And while there was another possible sighting of the cat on Saturday, there was no evidence to prove an animal of that magnitude was ever at the scene. “We actually had a report of a sighting this past Saturday, but our officers responded, checked out the area and there were no footprints,” Sweeny said. “The sighting was reported to be a cougar-sized animal in a tree. What would…

Glencoe Responds to Racial Profiling Claim with Data

In 2011, about 17 percent of people stopped for traffic violations were minorities, according to Glencoe Public Safety Department data.

About 15 percent of the people stopped for traffic violations in the Village of Glencoe have been minorities over the past three years, according to information obtained by Patch. This comes as an Evanston man pursues a claim he was racially profiled in the village. Rev. Dr. Michael James of Evanston requested the information after Glencoe police issued him a ticket for cycling through the Sheridan Road construction zone on June 30. James says the stop was racially motivated and several other white bicyclists went through the area without being stopped.   Here is a look at the racial background of the stops on a year-to-year basis, according to documents obtained by Patch through the Freedom of Information Act from the Glencoe Public …

Glencoe Officials, Evanston Pastor Meet on Racial Profiling Claim

The pastor said he received "inhumane treatment" while biking through a construction zone on Sheridan Road. Local officials, however, say the stop was not racially motivated.

An Evanston pastor met with Glencoe village officials Monday over a racial profiling claim. Glencoe Police Chief Michael Volling does not believe any prejudice occurred. Both sides are preparing for another meeting July 25 and the possibility of a lawsuit has not yet been ruled out. Rev.
