The village officials joined Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel in “Mayors Against Illegal Guns”, a coalition to make communities safer by cracking down on illegal guns.
Winnetka Village President Jessica Tucker and Northfield Village President Fred Gougler recently joined Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and other mayors, village presidents and law enforcement officials from around the Chicago region to call for stronger gun regulations. “In order to protect our children, our families and our communities, we need common-sense gun-control legislation,” Mayor Emanuel said. “To provide the residents of our cities with the safety they deserve, we need criminal background checks on all gun sales, a comprehensive assault weapons ban, and a ban on high-capacity magazines meant for the battlefield, not America’s streets. Municipal leaders met with Congressman Monday.
When Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) invited mayors and village presidents to his 10th District Mayors’ Summit, the idea was to discuss job creation and economic development. At the event Monday, the conversation stayed focused primarily on the weather. Municipal leaders from Highland Park, Winnetka, Northfield, Buffalo Grove, Riverwoods and other communities were more concerned with the damage from last Tuesday’s storm that left nearly half a million people without power at its apex. “We talked about our common experiences and how we can work together,” Winnetka Village President Jessica Tucker said. Dold anticipated the mayors’ needs and added a special presentation to the agenda from Lake County Emergency Coordinator Kent McKenzie. …

In light of recent speculation that a massage parlor might be moving to Northfield, the Village Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to adopt an ordinance that forces all “massage establishments” to register a business license with the municipality. Before it adopted home rule, the village did not have this authority, but now all massage establishments will have to obtain an annual business license and provide copies of their valid state licenses from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations. Additionally, all massage therapists and employees will be subject to criminal background checks. The recent interest in massage parlors comes four months after the Northfield Police Department busted a massage establishment at …
