A Northfield man facing hazing charges following the death of David Bogenberger, 19, at a Northern Illinois University fraternity house, has surrendered to Northfield Police. James P. Harvey, 21, turned himself in on Dec. 19 on a $15,000 warrant out of DeKalb County for hazing not sanction by institution and hazing with bodily harm, police said. Harvey was released after posting $1,500 cash bond, or 10 percent of the bond, and was issued a Dec. 28 court date in DeKalb County, police said. Harvey, of 1717 Colonial Ln., Northfield, is vice president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity where NIU freshman Bogenberger was found dead on Nov. 2. Get ready to pay more at the post office next year. The cost to mail a one ounce letter will increase to 46 cents a stamp on Jan. 27. That’s up from 45 cents in 2012. Mailing a postcard will also cost one penny more at 33 cents. The same increase was imposed in 2012. New Domestic pricing for Priority Mail Flat Rate products are as follows: If you want to save a few bucks mailing one ounce letters, stock up on Forever stamps now. They can be used anytime in the future regardless of price increases at the post office.

The North Shore-based food and beverage company is planning to accommodate an additional 900 employees that will be working from the Northfield campus.
Kraft’s campus in Northfield used to house 1,300 employees, in the future the 70-acre campus could house 2,200 employees once remodeling is complete, Chicago Tribune reported. Located at the corner of Willow and Waukegan roads, the food and beverage company plans to remodel one-third of its office area at a cost of $2.5 million for just Phase I of the renovation, a boon for the Village of Northfield, which is expected to net $55,000 from the building permits alone, Community Development Director Steve Gutierrez told Chicago Tribune. In early 2012, the company cut 1,600 positions and closed its Glenview Corporate Office as part of its restructuring.
