9 Vehicles Burglarized on Riverside Drive, Pistol Stolen from Northfield Home

Happ road between Sept. 24 and Oct. 23, according to police.  Residential Burglary A French door was broken inside a home in the 200 block of Shadow Woods Lane on Oct. 20. The victim told police the front door was unlocked and nothing was taken. The cost to repair the French door was estimated at $1,000. Glencoe Bond Referendum on Nov. 6 Ballot

The village is seeking voter approval to issue $8.55 million in bonds to fund sewer improvements, sidewalk replacements and street resurfacing.

On Nov. 6 Glencoe voters will be asked to vote on an infrastructure bond referendum that the village says will fund ongoing infrastructure improvements and maintenance needs, according to the village website.  The village is seeking authority to issue $8.55 million in bonds to pay for storm sewer improvements, sanitary sewer maintenance upgrades, street resurfacing and sidewalk replacement work.  How does the referendum impact property tax? For each $10,000 paid in property tax, taxpayers would see a $33 increase on their tax bill annually until 2018. From 2019 to 2027, the total amount of property taxes needed to pay the village’s debt is expected to decrease since a portion of Glencoe’s existing debt will be retired.  Sewer Improvements …

Vences, 21, of 810 Old Willow Rd., Prospect Heights, was arrested Oct. 25 for unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle following a report of a person seen at the beach spray painting graffiti on the breaker wall at 799 Sheridan Road, police said. 6 New Trier Students Charged With Distributing Inappropriate Photos

The police investigation began last month. The male students are being charged as juveniles and police are not releasing their names.

Six New Trier High School students were charged with distributing inappropriate photos by text and email, according to the Chicago Tribune. The investigation began last month and District 203 Superintendent Linda Yonke alerted parents that the police were looking into the matter. According to the Tribune, Winnetka police confirmed Tuesday that six male students were charged Oct. 25 after police interviewed more than 20 students in their investigation. Police are not releasing the students’ names or hometowns, or saying how the photos were inappropriate. 6 Vehicles Burglarized, 2 Vehicles Stolen in Winnetka

Several vehicles in the area of Ash Street and Provident Avenue were burglarized over the weekend.

Winnetka police are warning residents of auto burglaries and thefts after six vehicles were burglarized and two vehicles were stolen during the overnight hours of Oct. 26 and 27.  The eight vehicles were believed to be unlocked and ignition keys were in the two stolen Winnetka vehicles, according to police.  After abandoning a car stolen from a Chicago resident in the 300 block of Provident Avenue, police say the offenders burglarized vehicles in the 300 to 400 block of Provident Avenue and in the 900 block of Ash Street.  About $30 in cash was reported missing from an unlocked vehicle rummaged through in the 400 block of Provident Avenue, according to police reports.  After rummaging through five other vehicles in the area of Provident …

Winnetka Trustee DUI Court Date Moved to Nov. 26

Skokie police charged Trustee Jennifer Spinney with a DUI on Sept. 6 following a traffic stop near the 9200 block of McCormick Boulevard.

A Winnetka trustee charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and several other traffic violations was originally scheduled to appear in court this month, but her court date has been moved to Nov. 26.  Winnetka Trustee Jennifer Spinney was stopped on Sept. 6 at 1:41 a.m. after Skokie police said they witnessed her make a variety of traffic violations.  According to the report, Spinney was driving over the white lane dividers for more than a block and was doing 25 in a 40 mph speed zone. In the report, police said they also had to use a spotlight, air horn and sirens before Spinney finally pulled over near the 9200 block of McCormick Boulevard.  Spinney was observed by Skokie police to have bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred, …

Financial market innovator Leo Melamed has put his Glencoe mansion on the market for $3.5 million.  The former Chicago Mercantile Exchange chairman told the Chicago Tribune that “We’re at the time in our lives when all our friends have moved back downtown to the city, and we’re doing that as well. Northfield Electrical Aggregation Question on November Ballot

The village is holding information sessions and outreach for residents to learn more about the municipal aggregation program, which would allow village leaders to negotiate for the best prices for residents.

The Village of Northfield is joining the growing ranks of municipalities who are choosing to look at electrical aggregation to save residents money on electric bills. On the November 6 ballot, a referendum question will be posed to Northfield residents. Voting yes would give the village the authority to negotiate with electric suppliers, in addition to Commonwealth Edison, for resident and [eligible] small commercial accounts, according to the Village of Northfield website.  If approved, ComEd would still handle billing and service calls, but the supplier of electricity, based on the lowest negotiated price, could change.
