Lisa Sheppard, who spent 15 years as the recreation director at the Gurnee Park District managing a $5 million recreation and facility budget, will start as the new executive director for Glencoe Park District on Feb. 20, Chicago Tribune reported. The Gurnee resident will take the reins from Interim Director Steve Nagle and will be paid $120,000 annually plus a $500 monthly car allowance, Glencoe News reported. Sheppard told Chicago Tribune that she plans to move Glencoe Park District into the digital age, increase use of its facilities by looking at programs to reach a broad segment of the community and keep an eye on the district’s bottom line. The potential reasons for former Glencoe Park District Executive Director Donald Van Arsdale's sudden resignation could relate to park district board members questioning his living rent-free in a Glencoe home, according to Glencoe Trib Local. Park Board Commissioner Trent Cornell reportedly had been checking into the practice of not charging rent to executive directors of the park district citing IRS concerns, according to the article. Glencoe Park Disrict Executive Director Donald P. Van Arsdale resigned Wednesday, on the day he submitted his resignation letter, according to a press release on the Glencoe Park District website. Van Arsdale served in the position for three years, according to the press release. "It has been a real pleasure working with you these past three years. I admire and hold each of you in the highest of esteem," Van Arsdale wrote in a memo to staff included in the release.
