Eli Greenspan will spend 18 weeks this spring interning for U.S. Senator Dick Durbin.
Glencoe resident Eli Greenspan will be interning for Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL) this spring in D.C. gaining firsthand knowledge of the legislative process and learning about the inner-workings of federal government all while developing research skills. “Being an intern in Senator Durbin’s office has been an amazing experience,” Greenspan said in a press release. “You know you are part of something special when you spend your days actually working in a Senate office and walking around the hallways of the Capitol.” Greenspan, a senior in University of Maryland, is majoring in government and politics. “I hope to learn more about how this office operates on a daily basis, to help where I can and to find a position or field to work towards …

Immigration
Earlier this week a bipartisan group of Senators and President Obama each unveiled immigration reform plans. Each plan contains a path to citizenship for the estimated 11 million undocumented workers living in the U.S. Both plans are attached to this post. The Senate plan, whose supporters include Illinois Democrat Dick Durbin and Florida Republican Marco Rubio, states that reform should include tougher border security, while also providing an opportunity for citizenship to those already living in the U.S. The plan states that undocumented workers would be "required to go to the back of the line of prospective immigrants, pass an additional background check, pay taxes, learn English and civics, demonstrate a history of work in the United …

Bank of America will start charging many of its debit card users $5 a month
Bank of America debit card users might be spending $60 more a year, in light of fee changes the company announced Thursday. Customers have already expressed their outrage, and the bank's "stock [to] fall more than 2 percent in late-morning trading," The Washington Post reports.
