Editor’s note: Patch will be trying a new method for voting our Athlete of the Week. We’re asking readers to post their vote in the comments section. With 8 write-in votes, Deerfield's Mike Wiggemansen was named the Athlete of the Week. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, March 26 – April 1: Brad Margolin, junior, baseball, Glenbrook North – Margolin pitched a complete game and allowed only two hits, but was the tough-luck loser in Glenbrook North’s 2-1 loss to Francis Howell North. The Spartans held the lead into the sixth inning, but committed a handful of errors that gave Francis Howell North late opportunities. Izzy Bergman, freshman, softball, Evanston – Bergman went 4 for 4 at the plate with 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs and 2 stolen…

Your Turn: Vote for Patch Athlete of the Week

Nominees for Athlete of the Week are Deerfield's Artie Bess, New Trier's Elana Benishay, Niles North's Mariyah Henley, Glenbrook North's Andrew McAuliffe and Loyola's Lauren Kriz.

More than 1,600 votes were cast in last week's competition and Deerfield's Christine Stitcher was named Patch Athlete of the Week.  The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Feb. 13 - Feb. 19: Artie Bess, senior, wrestling, Deerfield – Bess took third place in the 220-pound division at the Class 3A wrestling state championships last weekend. Bess beat Mt. Carmel junior David Denne 3-1 in the third-place match and finished the season with a record of 40-2. Lauren Kriz, senior, girl’s basketball, Loyola Academy – Kriz tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Ramblers’ 46-31 win over Evanston in the Class 4A Evanston Regional finals. The Ramblers moved to 23-7 on the season and defeated Evanston for the second time this season. …

UPDATE: See Who Won Patch's Athlete of the Week

With more than 500,000 votes cast, find out who won this week's Patch Athlete of the Week.

With more than 500,000 votes counted for this week's contest, Deerfield's Lenny Bloom came out the winner.  Bloom remained undefeated on the season for wrestling with three more victories in Deerfield’s recent quad meet against Huntley, Johnsburg and Lake Zurich. The 145-pound senior is looking to get back to the state championships in his final season. While we are fully aware of the glitch in our voting system, Bloom still came out on top. Patch will be exploring a new system next week in selecting our winner due to this glitch. HONORABLE MENTION: Jack Conner, senior, wrestling, New Trier –Conner won the 152 (lb.) title in the 27-team Hinsdale Central tournament. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Dec. 19- Dec. 25: Lenny Bloom, senior, wrestling, Deerfield – Bloom remained undefeated on the season with three more victories in Deerfield’s recent quad meet against Huntley, Johnsburg and Lake Zurich. UPDATE: See Who Won Patch's Athlete of the Week

Another hotly contested poll. See who came out on top and won Athlete of the Week!

Almost 600 votes were cast and in the end Deerfield's Michael Alfieri claimed this week’s Athlete of the Week title.  Alfieri was one of the main reasons Deerfield handed CSL North rival Glenbrook North its first loss of the season. The standout sophomore scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assist in the Warriors’ 48-42 victory.  Alfieri captured 264 votes, or 44 percent. The contest literally came down to the wire, with Alfieri and Glenbrook North's Mark Johnson tied with the same amount of votes just hours before Sunday's voting deadline (midnight).
