Construction Season Extends into the Fall

The Village of Northfield's manhole reconstruction on Old Willow Road will bring detours and delays for the beginning of the school year.

School may be starting soon, but construction season isn’t over yet. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is gearing up to start construction on a new manhole structure in Old Willow Road just north of Willow Road.  So along with new carpools and after-school activities, this fall will bring some more traffic congestion and detours. “They have an existing sanitary sewer structure on the north west side of Willow Road and Old Willow Road near the Shell station that needs to be replaced,” Northfield Village Manager Stacy Alberts Sigman said in an email. Willow Road Project Stretches On

Northfield leaders losing patience over long-delayed state plans for 1-mile section of road.

The project to expand Willow Road continues to fill Northfield residents with confusion, anticipation and rage as community members and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) deliberate on a solution.  The project has become a shared headache for drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists and residents in Northfield and neighboring villages. It also was a bone of contention at the latest meeting to discuss the matter. "We don't have all the answers yet, but it's been a very thorough process," said Pete Harmet, a member of the IDOT project team.
