Metra's board voted to drop the discount on its 10-ride ticket.
Folks who ride the Metra regularly may now have to shell out an extra few bucks for every 10th trip. That's because the Metra board of directors voted 8-2 on Nov. 16 to raise the cost of a 10-ride ticket. The new 10-ride ticket would cost the same as 10 individual tickets. In the past, the discounted fare only charged the equivalent of nine rides. The increased fare would go into effect Feb. 1, and 10-Ride tickets purchased Nov. 17 through Jan. 31 would be valid only through Feb. 28, according to the Metra website. Even though the measure was passed by the board, the fare increase cannot legally be adopted until Metra holds a meeting for public comment. These public hearings will be held simultaneously at eight Chicagoland locations from 4…

Located in the Metra station, Café Fleurette serves traditional French baked goods.
It’s 7:30 a.m. and Café Fleurette is already out of chocolate croissants, disappointing a few of the many commuters that stop at the tiny bakery in the Winnetka Metra station. Co-owner and Glencoe resident Rachel Beaudry said many locals come in the morning for coffee and a croissant, and stop by again on their way home to pick up bread for dinner. That tendency has led her to consider carrying sandwiches and soups that customers can pick up for a quick meal. “I would like to be a service to commuters,” she said. While train riders are the main audience, as word has spread Beaudry said she’s been seeing more customers, including local kids riding their bikes there…

The Village Board may consider a zoning change to allow Glencoe Roast Coffee to have a coffee kiosk at 1891 train station.
If a local business has its way, the people of Glencoe may have a little extra help in the morning to perk up and catch the train to Chicago on time. The owners of Glencoe Roast Coffee want to put a small coffee stand or kiosk into the 1891 Glencoe train station, feeling a profit could be made caffeinating commuters. Owner Yolanda Kowalski said business is picking up at the corner of Vernon and Park, and they just recently saw the train station as a logical place to expand their business. “A lot of people who live here, they work in the city, and they take the train. We would like to accommodate the customers,” Kowalski said. Metra stations in Winnetka and Lake Forest already sell coffee, but Glencoe has never had much business of any kind…
