Third Candidate Enters 10th District Race

Attorney Robert McKenzie files paperwork with Federal Election Commission.

Wheeling resident and Chicago lawyer Robert A. McKenzie intends to seek the Democratic nomination for the newly drawn 10th Congressional District's House seat.  Though McKenzie has yet to make a formal announcement, he has formed a committee—McKenzie for Congress—and launched a website. He filed papers with the Federal Election Commission on May 7 that indicated his intention to run.  McKenzie is the third candidate seeking the Democratic nomination to oppose Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) in the 2012 November election. Waukegan community organizer Ilya Sheyman and Deerfield business consultant Brad Schneider have already announced their campaigns. Citizens Question Dold on Taxes, Social Security

The 10th district congressman held town hall meetings in Winnetka and Buffalo Grove this weekend.

Anger and frustration emanated from some members of a crowd of more than 40 citizens who came to a Town Hall meeting to hear Rep. Robert Dold (R-10th) speak Saturday at the Buffalo Grove Village Hall. While some contentedly listened to an explanation of the House of Representatives' efforts the last two weeks to reduce the nation’s financial deficit, others expressed their displeasure of the perceived privilege the wealthiest Americans receive from the Internal Revenue Code. Eleanore and Bob Rathke of Buffalo Grove are concerned with America’s growing budget deficit. They came to hear what Dold was going to do about the proposal passed Friday by the House of Representatives, 235-193. Dold voted for it. “What [Rep. Paul] Ryan (R-Wis.) did …

They need to make sure that congressmen and women who are responsible for a shutdown of government if there is one in the future, do not receive their pay and the military get theirs! The congress should all be ashamed of this disparity and the recent shennanigans relating to this!   more ›

Spirited Crowd Questions Dold at Town Hall Meeting

Congressman addresses group in Glenview hours after casting vote to cut $60 billion in federal spending.

A passionate group of more than 60 people came to U.S Rep. Bob Dold’s (R-IL) town hall meeting at Glenview Village Hall on Saturday to hear what their congressman had to say about his first six weeks in Washington.  The citizens wanted to hear Dold’s ideas and express their own. Some of the participants argued with each other while the first-term congressman acted as the peacemaker. Most had the economy and budget as their top priorities, and there were a myriad of suggestions to improve the situation.  Dold was poised to discuss the issue after voting to cut $60 billion from the current federal budget just seven and a half hours before the meeting began. He cast his vote about 3:30 a.m. (CST) on the floor of the House.  “We had to go back…

@ Pat - I mentioned below that Dold's notorious "jobs advisory panel" is headed up by Abbott Lab's chief lobbyist. This came to light the week AFTER Abbott pinkslipped 2000 people even though the company was profitable. Is Dold and his shiny new "jobs panel" going to find those 2000 people new jobs?   more ›

Democrat concedes Wednesday; Republican wins close race to replace U.S. Senator-elect Mark Kirk in 10th Congressional District.

Almost six hours after supporters and campaign volunteers started to gather at Bob Dold's campaign headquarters in Winnetka, Dold made his first public appearance as one of the newest members of the U.S. House of Representatives.  Dold, a Republican, will fill the seat vacated by Mark Kirk, who was elected to the U.S. Senate in a race against Alexi Giannoulias. Sitting through a tight race all day, Dold was unable to have a talk with his opponent, Dan Seals, before he gave his victory speech. "I certainly would liked to have had a conversation with Dan [Seals]," Dold said. "I take my hat off to him." Seals didn't take the stage at his campaign's election night event in Deerfield until well after midnight, but most of his supporters stayed …

Q&A: Robert Dold, Republican Candidate for 10th Congressional District

GOP hopeful cites need for 'pro-job' and 'pro-growth' strategies.

Patch talked to Robert Dold, who is running against Dan Seals to represent the 10th congressional district Nov. 2. Patch: The country seems to be divided between those who believe President Obama's policies will pull us out of the recession, and in fact may have prevented the economy from getting worse, and those who believe we are raising taxes to an unsustainable level which will stymie business growth and saddle future generations with a heavy tax burden.  Where do you fall along this spectrum? Robert Dold: I myself think that what's going on right now is our out-of-control spending is just that -- out of control. We need to make sure we're not raising taxes. We need to focus on how to get people back to work. In the 10th [of] this $862…
