New Trier Students Create Holiday Display for Mall

The students’ work will be on display at Westfield Old Orchard Mall until Dec. 31.

From snowflakes made out of forks to dresses made from recycled magazines, New Trier High School students gave it their all for the three holiday displays they created for Westfield Old Orchard Mall retailers.  During the fall semesters the students in the schools fashion marketing and merchandising class worked with Oak Street Design and learned what it was like to create and design effective visual merchandising displays.  “We learned that you’d have this idea of what it’s going to look like in the beginning but throughout the process, the output really changes,” said Sophie Litow, 17. “It’s an evolving process.”  The teenagers created displays with the theme of home, fashion, and culinary arts for three retailers: Barnes and Noble, Old …

Chicago Area Barnes & Noble Card Readers Were Hacked

Hackers stole credit card date from 63 stores around the country by hacking into PIN pads. The Barnes & Noble in Evanston, Deerfield, Chicago, Crystal Lake, Deer Park and West Dundee were among the stores with breached data.

Seven Barnes & Noble stores in Illinois were among 63 stores around the country where credit card data stored on PIN pads was hacked, according to the company.  Barnes & Noble released a list of stores where data was breached on Tuesday; other stores in Illinois include one in Evanston two in Chicago, one in Crystal Lake, on in Deer Park, one in Deerfield and one in West Dundee. The company inspected every PIN pad in the nearly 700 stores nationwide and has discontinued use of all its PIN pads on Sept. 14, according to a press release from the bookseller. Barnes & Noble described the hacking as “a sophisticated criminal effort to steal credit card information, debit card information, and debit card PIN numbers from customers who swiped …

The young star was promoting his new book, 'Everlast,' at Barnes and Noble in Old Orchard Mall on Wednesday.

More than a 500 Chad Michael Murray fans gathered at Barnes & Noble in Old Orchard Mall on Wednesday. "The line was insane," said an enthusiastic 17-year-old Amanda  Taylor. "There was a slew of teenage girls and like two boys ... There were girls shouting out, 'I love you Chad, I'm leaving!' and he actually said 'bye' to them." Taylor was one of the many people who came to see Murray promote his new book, Everlast. The One Tree Hill star has told the media in the past that his "graphic novel" took more than six years to write. Originally a fashion model, Murray shot to TV stardom after appearing in the hit series, One Tree Hill. Former United States President Bill Clinton signed copies of his new book at a North Shore Barnes and Noble.

Former United States President Bill Clinton Friday urged Occupy Wall Street protestors to bring together local politicians and business owners to come up with economic initiatives. Clinton discussed OWS during a brief, morning appearance at the Barnes and Noble in Old Orchard while promoting his latest book Back to Work: Why We Need Smart Government for a Strong Economy. "I wrote this book to try and respond to what Occupy Wall Street and these other Occupy Movements are doing," said Clinton. 'Glee' Star Jane Lynch has a 'Happy Accident'

The actress was at Westfield Old Orchard on Saturday to promote her new memoir "Happy Accidents."

Jane Lynch, who plays Sue Sylvester of FOX's "Glee," signed copies of her new memoir Saturday afternoon at the Barnes and Nobles in Skokie. The book details aspects from Lynch's life and career, including her struggles with her sexuality, alcoholism and the string of happy accidents that led her to where she is today. The visit was a homecoming for Lynch, who was born and raised in Dolton on Chicago's South Side. Lynch spent the first two decades of her career in Chicago theaters. Author, movie critic signs copies of his new autobiography for hometown fans.

A long line of fans gathered at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Old Orchard Mall last Thursday night to meet their favorite hometown film critic and author, Roger Ebert. The book signing was held to promote his new autobiography, Life Itself, which hit shelves earlier this month. "Life Itself" tells the story of the 69-year-old's life from his time as a child in Urbana, IL, to the start of his career at the Chicago Sun-Times to his current battle with thyroid cancer, which has required surgery to move his jaw bone. Many fans who greeted the writer thanked him for the enjoyment he has given them and for the effect his writing had on their lives.
