Michael Harris finished the race approximately 45 minutes before the bomb went off as his wife, Lori Harris, watched him run past.
What is it like to stand 45 minutes and a few feet away from one of the nation’s most tragic moments? Michael and Lori Harris of Deerfield know the answer. Lori was a few feet away from the site of the second bomb explosion at Monday’ Boston Marathon as she watched her husband, Michael, run past on his way to crossing the finish line. Earlier: Three Deerfield Runners Finished Marathon Before Explosion “I was at the site of the second blast (when) I saw him (Michael) run by me,” Lori said. “I was so grateful I saw him. If you look away for a second you could miss.” He finished the race in 3:42.1 approximately 45 minutes before cheers turned into screams. After that they went through a very normal post race ritual. Hockey player Tommy Wingels, who graduated from New Trier High School, talked to Patch about starting his NHL career and standing up for a cause he believes in: same sex marriage.
With the same determination he brings to the ice rinks, Tommy Wingels is trying to change perceptions and culture. Whether he will be successful in the National Hockey League, social advocacy or in the business world one day, no doubt Wingels is taking his “shot.” This is the first full NHL season for the Evanston-born, Wilmette raised-Wingels, who plays for the San Jose Sharks in this year's truncated campaign. Wingels is making a contribution to his team by doing what he can to get victories in northern California, yet at the same time he is standing up for a cause that was thrust upon through a combination of friendship and tragedy. ********** Tommy Wingels is one of four children born to Bob Wingels, a now retired partner at a major …

The Chicagoland Jewish High School basketball team's deep post-season run brought the entire community together and made winners of the Tigers off the court as well as on.
The Chicagoland Jewish High School basketball team won’t win a state trophy this year after falling to Newark, 67-64, during Saturday’s Class 1A Mooseheart sectional championship game. But they won over the Jewish community, garnered the attention of their classmates and alumni and crafted wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Earlier: Dream Season Ends for CJHS in Sectional Final They truly are champions of their school and their community. “We talk about building memories that’ll last a lifetime, and life is so short,” Coach Marty Dello. “I’m more proud of our kids on what they do off the court.” Because of their Jewish faith, the Tigers, thanks to assistance from the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), had Saturday’s game …

Chicagoland Jewish High School's rally falls short as Tigers drop Sectional title game Saturday night.
The Chicagoland Jewish High School basketball team proved this week that it can rally late to come out victorious in a win-or-go-home game. Earlier: CJHS Nips Mooseheart in Sectional, Makes History While the Tigers were able to turn around an 11-point deficit against Mooseheart in the sectional semifinals Wednesday, they were not able to fully recover from a 59-51 deficit against Newark falling three points short at the final buzzer. “We knew we could come back and we did but not enough,” Tigers sophomore Josh Newlander, who led his team with 22 points and 13 rebounds, said. “But we kept …
