Robbery, Theft and Criminal Damage: Winnetka Blotter

May 18 Robbery: An employee reported to police that an unknown male entered Creme de la Creme, at 903 Green Bay Rd. in Hubbard Woods. The male displayed a knife, demanded cash and left. The loss is $240. Police Release Name of Winnetka Store Robbed Last Week

Creme de la Creme, at 903 Green Bay Rd., was the fourth retail store at which the lifeguard bandit attempted to steal cash in the past week.

Creme de la Creme was the most recent store robbed by the so-called lifeguard bandit, Winnetka police said Monday. Earlier: Fourth North Shore Armed Robbery Attempted in Three Days A man entered Creme de la Creme, located at 903 Green Bay Rd. in Hubbard Woods, on Saturday with a knife. He demanded cash from the store clerk, then left the gift store with $240. Police previously alerted the public to the robbery, but had not named the store until Monday. Winnetka Deputy Chief of Police Joseph Pellus told Patch on Monday afternoon that the police are investigating the string of burglaries that occurred last week and also affected retail stores in Northfield, Glenview and Wilmette. May 14 Graffiti: A police officer reported that sometime between March 27 and May 14, someone painted on the west-facing wall and south-facing pillar of a building at 511 Lincoln Ave. with black and white paint. The repair cost is $200. -- Theft: A person in the 900 block of Green Bay Road reported to police that between April 14 and May 10, someone removed business checks from a desk and cashed them, making for a loss of $8,200. Fourth North Shore Armed Robbery Attempted in Three Days

The lifeguard bandit strikes again. An offender robbed a Hubbard Woods shop on Friday afternoon. Police said he matches the description of a young man in a lifeguard sweatshirt who targeted three other North Shore stores.

A fourth retail store in the North Shore was targeted by an armed offender  Friday afternoon, police announced Saturday morning. A man entered a shop in Hubbard Woods at about 1:30 p.m. with a knife and demanded cash from the clerk before leaving the store, according to police. Police declined to name the store, citing the pending investigation. Police also declined to say how much money the offender took from the store. Northfield Candy Store Robbed, Two Other Nearby Stores Targeted

An offender successfully stole cash at both Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory store in Northfield and Yellow Bird Stationary store in Wilmette, and also attempted to rob a store in Glenview.

Northfield, Glenview and Wilmette were all hit with retail robbery this week, according to area police. The spree began Wednesday morning around 10:50 a.m. at Yellow Bird Stationery store in the Plaza Del Lago shopping center. A suspect described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall around 180 pounds with dirty blond hair handed a store clerk a note demanding money. Glencoe Man Charged with Reckless Homicide Out on Bail

John S. Warsaw, 63, of the 1100 block of Carol Lane was released on Thursday.

A Glencoe resident charged with reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol was released from Lake County Jail on Thursday after he put down the necessary $50,000 of the $500,000 bail, police said. According to police, John S. Warsaw, 63, was involvd in a head-on car accident on Jan. 13 that killed Shruti Phandis, 26, of Wheeling. May 11 Identity Theft: A resident in the 1100 block of Pebblewood Drive told police at 3:58 p.m. that she had received a letter from the IRS advising her that her tax return had been rejected because the IRS had already received a 2012 tax return that contained her Social Security Number as well as her daughter’s Social Security Number. -- DUI: At 11:29 p.m. near Eden’s Expressway and Dundee Road, a 41-year-old male from Waukegan was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol and disregard of a “No U-Turn” sign. Police Charge Glencoe Man with Reckless Homicide

John S. Warsaw, 63, turned himself into authorities on Wednesday.

A Glencoe resident is currently held in a Lake County jail due to charges of "reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol causing death and great bodily harm," according to the Lincolnshire Police Department. The Daily Herald reports that John S. Warsaw, 63, of the 1100 block of Carol Lane opted to stay in jail rather than pay the $500,000 bond required. On Jan. 13, Warsaw drove a Honda CRV the wrong way on Route 21 in Lincolnshire and hit a Toyota Corolla, according to the Daily Herald. The woman in the passenger seat of the Corolla, Shruti Phandis, 26, of Wheeling died a few days later from injuries. Warsaw was scheduled to be back in court on Thursday.

Northern Illinois Police K9 Memorial's jurisdiction includes Winnetka, Northfield and Glencoe. Tony Fanella always has loved dogs. The Lake County sheriff’s deputy and his sister, Traci Sikorski, grew up with German shepherds in their family. So when the opportunity arose for Fanella to apply for a police K9 partner, he jumped at the chance. Fanella was paired with Sinbad, a smart, loyal German shepherd. They worked together for three years. “These dogs become your best friend,” Fanella said. “You spend more time with them than your family.” Then, in June 2004, Fanella was training with Sinbad when the K9 unexpectedly suffered heat stroke and lost his life. “It was really hard on the whole family,” Sikorski said. “They work with these dogs…
