Green Wave 4th Grade Green Team Brings Home its First Victory

TEAM HIGHLIGHTS:  4th Grade Green Team

The Winnetka Green Wave Heavyweight, Lightweight and Middleweight teams suffered losses against Evanston and Deerfield this weekend but the 4th grade Green team brought home their first victory.  The Flyweights had a bye. 

The 4th grade Green team, led by Luke Madigan and Brad Johnson, won against Evanston.  It was a hard fought game from the start to finish. Madigan converted on a spectacular run from the scrimmage, a fifty yard scamper weaving in and out of Evanston tacklers. Bill Kotin immediately followed with a ten yard conversion for the extra point. The second touchdown came from Brad Johnson scoring with three minutes left in the first half. He took a pitch play outside, turning it up the sidelines for a forty yard touchdown. Jack Brewer followed with a tough, physical run off tackle for the extra point conversion which ended the first half with the Green Team leading 14-0. Evanston came out strong in the second half converting six running plays which led to a touchdown. With the score of 14-7 and ten minutes left to go, the Green team's defense prevented Evanston from reaching the end zone the rest of the game. Strong second half defensive performances led by Connor Kane and Tyler Hurly helped hold Evanston to just one touchdown. The kids are starting to come together as a team and understand their responsibilities on the field said coach John Hendricks. It was a great victory and we look forward to building off of it.
