Ten Ways to Connect with Winnetka Caucus Council

The success of the Caucus is dependent on its informed, synergetic connection to the community.

Each and every year the Winnetka Caucus Council starts anew, with a new chairperson, committee chairs, and executive committee. The Caucus is designed like this to make sure that no person or group of people can remain in a decision-making position for more than one year and so that ideas and efforts remain fresh and energetic.

Some things, of course, remain constant. The Caucus exists to serve the community in a few core ways: to recruit candidates for Village Council, School, Library and Park boards; to create relevant questions for the annual Survey; and to then draft guiding platforms for the boards based on the results of that survey. The success of the Caucus is dependent on its informed, synergetic connection to the community.

This relationship goes both ways, of course. Sandy Berger, Chair of the 2012 Winnetka Caucus Council, and the Caucus Executive Committee, would like to reach out to as many residents as possible this year, and have decided that the focus of the 2012 Caucus will be "Connect with your Caucus.”  Berger explains, “Our hope is to increase community support and involvement. Unfortunately, many people don't understand what the Caucus does, or the importance of our work. This year we would like to encourage people to 'connect with the caucus.' We have many board positions to fill this year, and have room on the council for more members. We want to hear about issues of concern, so that we can create a focused and relevant Survey. We would also love to see higher attendance at town meetings."
