Beach Hazard Statement in Effect for Winnetka and Glencoe

The statement warns beach goers to be on the watch for rip currents and strong waves.

A beach hazard statement is in effect in Winnetka and Glencoe from 7 p.m. on Thurs. through late evening on Friday.

The statement, according to Weather.com, means that beach goers should be aware that dangerous swimming conditions, rip currents and structural currents are expected. The rip-currents and pounding waves are potentially life-threatening.

Rip currents, which are channels of water flowing quickly away from shore, most often occur at low spots or breaks in sand bars. The currents can quickly weep you out from shore into deeper water.
