Villages Remind Residents of West Nile Virus Risk

Some helpful tips could help you avoid getting mosquito bites this summer, by using the proper repellant and helping to control insect populations.

Though they’re not 100-percent effective, there are some steps you can take to decrease your chances of getting bitten by a mosquito, and possibly contracting West Nile Virus.

The Village of Glencoe is reminding residents to be vigilant in helping to control mosquito populations.

  • Since mosquito’s lays eggs in stagnant water, drain anything around your home that has sitting water in it
  • Report dead birds to police because that could be a sign West Nile Virus is present
  • Make sure screens on windows and doors are in good repair to prevent mosquito’s from entering your home
  • Peak biting times for mosquito’s are dawn and dusk so beware when you are out at those times
  • Keep grass and weeds trimmed short because the insects are less apt to hide there
