Olympic Skater Jason Brown Celebrated On Ice, In Ice

Highland Park Olympian Jason Brown has been dazzling fans and gaining a world-wide following with his performances on the ice. Now he’s been celebrated in ice.

The city unveiled a 10-foot ice sculpture of Brown in Port Clinton Square Wednesday to a cheering crowd of city officials, fellow skaters and fans. The Chicago Tribune estimated the crowd at 100.

The 19-year-old, who was a long shot to make it to the Olympics, has become an Internet sensation through the YouTube video of his qualifying performance, which has garnered close to four million views. You can also follow him on Twitter, where his genuine excitement about being in Sochi is infectious. Plus, his trademark ponytail now has its own Twitter feed.

Centennial Ice Arena, where Brown started his skating career, is hosting a viewing party Friday to watch him compete live. The party, along with refreshments and free skating, runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
