New Trier Baseball Player Wins State Honor

Charlie Tilson was named Illinois Baseball Player of the Year by Gatorade.

One of New Trier's star athletes received a state-wide honor for his achievements on and off the baseball field.

Charlie Tilson, a senior outfielder on the baseball team, was named the Illinois Baseball Player of the Year and is in the running for Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year. Previous honorees include Derek Jeter, Chipper Jones and Derek Lee, among others.

Tilson is the first New Trier baseball player to earn the recognition. In school, he has a 3.82 GPA and volunteers to several sports-related organizations.

that he signed a letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Illinois but was meeting with the Boston Red Sox too. He will take part in the draft for Major League Baseball this year, according to a press release.
