Senior Fitness Start Up!

GLENCOE—Senior Fitness Start Up!--a new exercise class co-sponsored by Family Service of Glencoe and the Glencoe Park District—is helping seniors gain strength and find their balance.

The class designed specifically for men and women over 50 is being led by nationally known strength conditioning expert and personal trainer Mark Cibrario and his assistant, Patricia Olsen-Prescott.

“The aim of the class is to increase stability, mobility and strength,” said Cibrario,a leading authority on functional movement training and lifting technique.  “We’re concentrating on quality of life movement patterns help older men and women move better and feel better,” he said.

Cibrario, who has been recognized as one of the top 55 trainers in the U.S. by the American Association of Personal Trainers, sees positive change in participants in as little as a session.  The hour-long class takes place on Wednesday afternoons from 2 to 3 p.m., at the Glencoe Park District’s Takiff Center, 999 Green Bay Road. Participants are welcome to join the class at any time and pay as they go.  The fee for each class session is $20. To register and for more information, please call the FSG office at (847) 835-5111.

Family Service of Glencoe is committed to meeting the needs of community members across the age spectrum. Glencoe resident and FSG Advisory Board member Lois Scheyer, in partnership with FSG staff, commissioned Cibrario to design the fitness program after attending a recent Family Service workshop on senior wellness with FSG therapist Joan Merlo, LCSW.
