Holes For Heroes Midwest

The Rotary Club of Winnetka-Northfield announces the first “Holes for Heroes” Midwest golf event and dinner to support veterans returning from duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. The event takes place September 12th at Crane’s Landing golf club at the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort.  Proceeds from the event will help several organizations who assist veterans and their families suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).  Over 700,000 of our young men and women in service suffer from PTSD, often called the “Invisible Illness.”  Visit www.holesforheroes.org/midwest to learn more about the devastating effects of PTSD on soldiers and their families.

“Not many events provide such a meaningful and 'up close and personal' opportunity to say "THANK YOU!" to our Midwest military heroes and heroines, to their children, and families” said Ken Duffy, head of the Rotary Club’s planning committee.  “We will be entertained by the Voice of Veterans band, all combat Vets. Other military medal winners will join us for this important inaugural event.  And we are honored to have Captain James Lovell serving as our honorary Tournament Chair.”

The “Holes for Heroes” movement began four years ago as an event sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Diego Downtown Breakfast.  The movement is growing across the country, as the Rotary Club of Las Vegas recently held their first Holes for Heroes event.  “It only makes sense for Rotary Clubs to honor those who serve our country,” said Kristen Jasinski, President of the Rotary Club of Winnetka-Northfield.  “Rotarians live by the creed ‘Service Above Self’, so it’s very natural for us to want to support those who serve us.”
