White Sox Name New Trier Grad as New General Manager

Rick Hahn has been promoted from assistant general manager to general manager. The Winnetka native replaces Ken Williams, who was elevated to the position of executive vice president of the club.

The White Sox have named Rick Hahn, a New Trier High School graduate, as its new general manager, according to the club's website.

The 41-year-old has served as the club’s assistant general manager since October 2000 and helped build the White Sox’s World Series championship team in 2005, The Miami Herald reported.

"(Hahn) is one of the most respected young executives in baseball today and that reputation is well earned given his relationships with other team executives, players, agents, manager Robin Ventura and our coaches, members of the media and White Sox fans," White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf was quoted saying in an article on the club's site

Hahn is highly respected throughout the club and Major League Baseball for his communication and negotiation skills, according to the Chicago Tribune. He has negotiated several multi-year player contracts, including agreements with current players John Danks, Gavin Floyd, Paul Konerko and Alexei Ramirez. The Glencoe resident is also credited with the 2007 acquisition of Most Valuable Player-candidate Carlos Quentin, according to Hahn’s biography on MLB.com.

The Winnetka native replaces Ken Williams, the club’s general manager for 13 years who has been promoted to executive vice president of the White Sox, Chicago Tribune reported.
