Price Tag on New Trier Rehab Proposals Under $100M

The public say three design proposals this week to replace aging buildings on the Winnetka campus. The board is likely to pick one next week.

The three proposals that the public saw Monday to replace aging buildings on New Trier High School’s Winnetka campus would all likely cost less than $100 million, according to an article in the Chicago Tribune. That is considerably less than the $174 million that voters shot down in a 2010 referendum on renovations.

Three design teams presented their ideas for how to replace three adjacent buildings that the district says are old, inefficient and inaccessible. In order to keep the cost down, the architects were asked to not include a new guy, field house, fitness facilities or underground parking, all of which were part of the failed 2010 proposal.

The design teams are: CannonDesign, HBRA Architects, and The Third Teacher; Moore Ruble Yudell and Legat Architects; and Wight & Company. The board is expected to pick one of the designs to move forward with at its Feb. 18 meeting.
