North Shore Country Day Students Recognized for Literary Talent

Three students received the Gold Key recognition, the highest level of achievement at the regional level, in the 2013 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

 

Three North Shore Country Day School students were recently recognized for their literary talent and selected for the Gold Key recognition, the highest level of achievement for student artists and writers at the regional level, in the 2013 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, Chicago Tribune reported. 

A panel of judges chose the following works to receive a Gold Key: Josh Hoeflich, 16, wrote a persona essay titled Jacob and I about his relationship with his brother; Declan Falls, 16, wrote a short story titled The Lamarckian about 19th-century biologist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck; and Hayun Cho, 18, was recognized for her portifolio submission, which included poetry and personal essays, Chicago Tribune reported.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition is sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. The award offers students the chance to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited or published. Past notable winners include Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford and Joyce Caro Oates.
