Result: MPA 0-2 North Shore North Shore played against a well-organized, spirited Morgan Park Academy team. On a poor pitch, the game was scrappy with MPA playing very direct making it difficult for North Shore to play its usual free-flowing soccer. It was a scoreless first half but North Shore came out stronger in the second half and made their pressure count, as Jamie Swimmer forced a MPA defender to score an own goal. With ten minutes remaining, Sophomore Gordie Rorhbach put the game out of reach for MPA with a cool finish into the corner following a through ball from Freshman Ben Potter.

Opponent: Latin School of Chicago

Location: Home

Result: North Shore 1-1 Latin North Shore was disappointed to only come away with 1 point from a game that should have been won. After a strong first ten minutes, North Shore played a reserved first half and allowed Latin to control most of the play. Despite North Shore coming out stronger in the second half, Latin scored against the run of play with a well taken dribble and finish. Conceding a goal inspired a North Shore fight back and within ten minutes North Shore were level when freshman Ben Potter played Senior Jamie Swimmer down the left side. Swimmer cut in and finshed expertly into the bottom right corner to tie the game. Despite continued North Shore pressure, the game remained tied with North Shore guilty of missing a host of chances. North Shore is still capable of winning the Independent School League, however this tie will not do them any favors.

Date: 9/22/12

Opponent: Keith Country Day School (Rockford)

Location: Home

Score: North Shore 3-1 Keith North Shore played against Northern Athletic Conference Champions and 1A Powerhouse Keith School (14-2) on Saturday. Keith, with a very talented midfield trio, were frustrated by North Shore's disciplined and organized defensive play. Many of the Keith players found themselves in the referees book due to reacting to strong, fair defensive challenges from North Shore players. In the 30th minute, Keith's captain showed some individual brilliance to turn and finish outside of the box. North Shore responded immediately with freshman Ben Potter showing his own brilliance to curl a free kick into the top corner to make it 1-1 at the half. North Shore came out strong and controlled the ball for the first ten minutes. Keith's captain's frusration showed as he received a second yellow card for pushing a North Shore player. North Shore made the numerical advantage pay off as Senior Floris Hondmann sent Senior Jamie Swimmer down the left. Swimmer took on the last Keith defender only to be fouled in the box. Swimmer jumped up, kept his cool, and converted the penalty to make it 2-1. Floris Hondmann scored a header with 15 minutes remaining to complete a fine performance by the North Shore Soccer Team. NorthShore has now won 6 of the last 7 games.

Girls' Varsity Field Hockey
Last Second Victory - North Shore vs. Deerfield High School (9/19)North Shore got on the board early against Deerfield last Wednesday night, with a goal by Heather Mabie four minutes into the game. They held the lean for 23 minutes before Deerfield scored to even the score heading into half time. The game looked like it was going into overtime when Deerfield scored again to take the lead with 2:08 remaining in the game. North Shore intensified the pressure and was awarded a corner with just over a minute remaining in the game. Freshman Tala Glass scored a clutch goal on a shot to the upper corner with :58 remaining in the game. As the clock wound down, North Shore regained the ball and forced into the circle with the clock counting down. Katherine Chandler passed the ball ahead to Lizzy Gendell who with one second remaining slipped it just past the goalie for a Raider victory! Lizzy Gendell scored 51 seconds into the game to give the Raiders the early lead. Despite out shooting Woodlands 19-4 and a 11-3 penalty corner margin, the game remained 1-0 until Addie Ball put one in the back of the cage off a penalty corner pass from Rory Kelly with 5:00 minutes remaining in the game.  Less than a minute later Reese Formolo picked up her own rebound an buried another ball in the goal sealing the victory. The Raiders have outscored their ISL opponents 16-2 thus far in the season.
