New Trier to Celebrate Art and Life of Former Substitute

Brian Bourke's art will be shown in a new exhibit at New Trier High School. He died last year.

The work of Brian Bourke, the late artist and former substitute teacher at New Trier High School and Loyola Academy, will be exhibited in the NTHS Ann Brierl Gallery from Oct. 7 until Oct. 25. An opening reception will be held on Oct. 10 from 5:30 until 7 p.m. 

Bourke was an artist and graphic designer, who graduated from the University of Illinois School of Art and Design and had a 30-year career in marketing and communications. Bourke's work has been exhibited in Chicago, Dubuque, Iowa and the North Shore. 

In 2006, Bourke started a greeting card company called Greencards, using his own art and designs. His works were being sold in over 40 stores at the time of his sudden death in 2012. Bourke was a substitue teacher at New Trier and Loyola.
