New Trier Teachers, Board to Enter Contract Mediation

As the NTHS teacher contracts approach expiration, the board and the teachers have entered into contract mediation after failing to reach an agreement on their own.

New Trier High School will enter mediation between the Board and teachers, according to the Sun-Times. The mediation will attempt to bring the two sides to an agreement on a new union contract. The two sides have agreed to not discuss the ongoing negotiations.

Under state law, the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board initiates mediation if a new contract is not agreed upon 45 days before the start of the school year.  The mediator is a neutral third party and operates at no cost to the District or the teachers.

The current contract expires in August, the Sun-Times article states. The last contract included a 3.5 percent increase in teachers' salaries for the 2011-12 and the 2012-13 school years.

The news of the contract mediation comes days after Wilmette District 39 announced that the District would also begin mediation between the Board and the Wilmette Education Association.
