New Trier Class of '11 ACT Scores are Higher Than Ever

While data Wednesday shared some sobering news about Illinois’ average ACT score, students at New Trier High School are scoring higher than ever.

Students in the Class of 2011 scored an average composite score of 27.5 on the ACT, posting among the top average composite scores in the nation among public open-enrollment high schools. It is also the highest composite a graduating class at New Trier has scored.

Overall, New Trier students achieved average scores of 28.1 in English, 27.8 in Mathematics, 27.3 in Reading, and 26.4 in Science. Ninety-seven percent of students meet the ACT determined college-readiness benchmark in English and 88 percent reach the benchmark in Math.

Further analysis shows that 90 percent of New Trier’s Class of 2011 scored above the state and national average, 20.9 and 21.1 respectively, and approximately half performed in the top six percent of the nation.

All high school juniors take the exam as a part of the Prairie State Achievement Exam. The multiple choice section of the test is scored on a 1-36 scale.
