Mental Health First Aid training course
You are more likely to encounter a person in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. Would you know what to do?
For most Americans, the answer to this question is “no”. To improve the public’s knowledge in this area, the North Shore United Methodist Church, 213 Hazel Avenue, Glencoe will offer a 2 day Mental Health First Aid course at the church September 28-29, 2012. The nationally-recognized training initiative helps members of the public to improve their mental health literacy – helping them identify, understand and respond appropriately to signs of mental illness.
Mental Health First Aid is a 12-hour training certification course which teaches participants a five-step action plan to assess a situation, select and implement interventions and secure appropriate services for the individual, the certification program introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact and overviews common treatments.Participants will receive a comprehensive training manual and will be certified in Mental Health First Aid after completing the course.
