For Parents of Incoming Kindergartners and Those New to the Winnetka Public Schools

Trisha Kocanda, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, and Dr. Julie Pfeffer, Principal of Crow Island School, will speak about the district’s history and philosophy on Friday, May 6 at 9:15-10:30 a.m. at Skokie School, 520 Glendale Ave., Winnetka, in the Community Room. Parents of incoming kindergarten students, as well as anyone new to District 36, are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. Children are welcome.

Ms. Kocanda and Dr. Pfeffer will discuss the rich history of the Winnetka Public Schools, founded in 1859, and its progressive philosophy, which has had an important impact on elementary education, both nationally and internationally. They will explain how the district’s philosophy is effectively applied in the classroom. Finally, Ms. Kocanda and Dr. Pfeffer will talk about what parents can expect as their children enter kindergarten at Hubbard Woods, Crow Island, and Greeley in the fall.
