Affluenza: The Rewards and Challenges of Teaching and Raising Young Children in Affluent Communities

Excellent schools, highly educated parents, numerous community resources, houses with every amenity, and opportunities for travel—these are just a few of the many advantages of raising young children in affluent communities.  But there are challenges, too.  The film. Race to Nowhere, has focused attention on the impact of too much pressure on our high school children, but these pressures often begin long before high school—often in the early childhood years.  Competition, overscheduling, overindulgence, and perfectionism can all have negative consequences. Learn how to identify inappropriate influences on young children and how you, as a parent or teacher of young children, can reduce or eliminate their impact.
