Dozens of New Trier Employees Are Victims of Identity Theft
The district is investigating the security breach of current and former staff's info, though it does not appear to have originated at the school.
More than 40 current and former New Trier High School employees have become victims of identity theft, according to an article in TribLocal. The school, which is cooperating in the criminal investigation, said its databases do not appear to have been breached.
The string of identity thefts came to light after retired employees started realizing they all had that unfortunate fact in common, the article says. All the victims are participants in the Illinois Teachers Retirement System and were hired at New Trier from 1968-1993. The thieves have used the stolen identities to file fraudulent tax returns, and open credit card and cell phone accounts.
