Do You Think a Teachers Strike is Inevitable?

Both New Trier High School and Wilmette District 39 announced last week they have entered mediation to come to an agreement on teacher contracts.

Both Wilmette District 39 and New Trier High School District 203 announced last week that they would be entering mediation between the Board of Education and teachers to come up with a new contract upon the expiration of the current one.

The mediation, under state law, comes if a new contract is not agreed upon by both sides within 45 days of the start of the school year. The mediator is a neutral third party and operates at no cost to the District or the teachers.

If, even with mediator's assistance, the two sides are unable to reach an agreement, a strike is possible.
