Half-Renovated David Adler Mansion on Market for $1.6M

The 1946 Winnetka home is bank owned.

If you want a beautiful home by a prominent architect, and don’t mind some significant renovations, then this may be the abode for you.

Winnetka’s only David Adler-designed home is on the market for $1,599,000. The Burr Avenue mansion is 6,650 square feet, not including a large basement, according to the listing material.

It’s half-restored because the previous owners lost the home last year in a foreclosure. That other half still needs to happen, according to an article in Chicago Magazine, and the agent estimates that $400,000 to $600,000 would do the trick.

A Landmarks Illinois conservation easement protects the home’s exterior and much of the interior. The entire, 900-ton home was moved one block to its current site to avoid being demolished.
