Seniors, Retaking the ACT?

If you are planning to take or retake the ACT this year, the first three test dates will meet a January 1 college application deadline.

September 21           Registration deadline:  August 23

October 26                Registration deadline:  September 27

December 14            Registration deadline:  November 8

If you anticipate a November 1 application deadline, only the September and October test will meet the deadline.  Check with your colleges to make sure they will accept the October test.  You may need to have the October score sent directly from ACT at the time you take the test to guarantee it will be considered as part of your application.  Colleges will always use your highest test score so don’t worry about sending a score without seeing it first…especially if you find yourself applying at the last minute.

The August 23 deadline happens right as school begins.  This is a busy time so don’t miss it or you risk paying a late registration fee.  ACT does have standby testing when space is available, but the ACT plus writing fee is a whopping $93.50 ($52.50 if you register on time). It’s not too early to register now and avoid those extra fees!

Some colleges will super score (combine subscores from different tests), so you may want to check your colleges to see if it might make sense to repeat the ACT and potentially increase your composite score by a point or two.
