Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the winter holiday season and the gathering of family and friends.  Wherever and whatever you do to celebrate - this is a great time to capture the moment in photographs. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you create your own memorable images:

  • Plan ahead - batteries charged, lenses cleaned. Also think about the shots you want to capture (people, groups, activities). It might even help to make a list.

  • Capture the details - This is a great time to use your zoom lens and photograph details that evoke the spirit of the holiday. Get in tight on Mom's pumpkin pie, Grandpa's tie, the new addition (baby or puppy!), and decorations.

  • Family group shot - It is not everyday that we all get together in one location, so be sure to take the opportunity to get that group shot. Candid or posed, just get the shot(s)! Things can change in the blink of a moment. And don't forget your tripod and timer so you can be in the photograph as well.

  • Tech tips - Group photos are best with an aperture of at least f6.3 and shutter speed above 1/125. Up your ISO to 400+ indoors, use your fill flash and don't forget about setting your white balance for the available light source.

Most importantly, keep shooting and have a wonderful holiday season!! Gobble, gobble!
