Winnetkans Invited to Observe Veterans Day

New Trier Veterans of Foreign Wars will be remembering local veterans at Winnetka Community House on Sunday.

A New Trier graduate will be the guest speaker at this year’s Veterans Day Observance in Winnetka.

Sam Badger was awarded the Silver Star for Conspicuous Gallantry and will be speaking at the event held at 5 p.m. on November 11, at Winnetka Community House.

Winnetka resident Robert Yale will also be presenting the Hadley School for the Blind a $10,000 grant from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. The grant will support Hadley’s Blinded Veterans Initiative, which Yale helped organize.

“As a veteran myself, I am very proud that my award will enable The Hadley School for the Blind to serve veterans that have so selflessly given to our country though their Blinded Veterans Initiative,” Yale said.

Yale has volunteered at Hadley for more than 10 years and was recently recognized by Northwestern Mutual as an exceptional volunteer.

The Veterans Day Observance will also feature the firing squad salute, TAPs performance and patriotic songs.
