Winnetka Residents Vote Down Stormwater Referendum

Voters also filled three village council seats.

The majority of Winnetka voters are not interested in a stormwater management tunnel under Willow Road.

They voted 1,679 to 1,402 against the plan in Tuesday’s non-binding referendum.

The referendum asked: "Should the Village of Winnetka implement the portion of the Village's Stormwater Management Program that includes building a tunnel under Willow Road to discharge stormwater into Lake Michigan, at an estimated project cost exceeding $30 million (plus substantial bond financing costs)?"
