Sheridan Road Water Main Work Continues

Extensive project is replacing one mile of water main and will require detours for motorists and bicyclist until mid-August; village warns of safety concerns in the area.

Water main improvements for close to a mile along Sheridan Road will continue throughout the summer.

The work is taking place on Sheridan Road between Beach Road to north of Aspen Lane, and affects motorists, bicyclists and residents living on Sheridan Road and the connecting side streets, according to Christine Van Dornick, village engineer.

“This is a very extensive project. We are working on close to one mile of water main and will provide regular updates for our residents on the Village of Glencoe website,” Van Dornick said.

The current detour on southbound Sheridan Road will likely be there until the middle of August, she said.

A new 12-inch water main is being installed in the pavement on the west side of the street in the southbound lane.

Northbound traffic is permitted on Sheridan Road, while southbound traffic is prohibited and being detoured. Motorists and those on bicycles do have access to Maple Hill Road and Franklin Road.

Van Dornick said access is still available at the North Shore Congregation and at Lake Shore Country Club from the north and south, but traffic can only travel northbound when exiting onto Sheridan Road.

The village does have safety concerns due to the amount of traffic that travels through the area on a daily basis.

“We are trying very hard to keep people safe; workers, bicyclists and motorists all must be aware of each other. The village also has employees on site monitoring the project," Van Dornick said

“It is a state law that through any construction zone, people are not allowed to be using their cell phones.  We need as much attention paid to this area as possible until this project is complete,” Van Dornick said.
