Schakowsky: Protect Women From Rape, Beatings

The Congresswoman wrote an op-ed for Politico.com today urging support for the International Violence Against Women Act. She cited her experiences meeting women who had been raped as a weapon of war.

"We refuse to stand by as one billion of our sisters are raped, beaten, or otherwise sexually assaulted," wrote U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky in a commentary today on Politico.com.

She wrote about her visit to an organization in the Democratic Republic of Congo that helps women heal after being systematically raped and otherwise maltreated during wartime.

Schakowsky urged that the Violence Against Women Act be reauthorized in Congress.

She also urged support for her International Violence Against Women Act, to help fight violence around the world.

She is participating in, and tied her comments to, the Feb. 14 One Billion Rising events, which raise awareness of the enormity of violence against women.

I think Mrs. Schakowsky ought to return to the Republic of Congo where she can do great things and bring her felon huusband along to cook the books of whatever organiztion they decide to assist with their special brand of assistance. He could make sure all their financial matters were in good order. I hear he is very skilled in financial matters. Very Skilled. And of course, poor Jan knew nothing of what her spouse was doing. I am wondering if when she loses a tooth a new row grows in to replace it? And she could petition for "mixed income housing " there, as she has in Evanston. 99 Units at the low, low cost of $40 million dollars.Lemme do that math...aaahhh ONLY $404,000 per unit. Thats some math. It sounds a bit like new and improved "Projects" to me,....coming soon to a neighborhood near you. Po people in condo units costing only $404,000 a piece. How could they suffer such shabby residences. And in a gang banger crime ridden area no less. MS. Schakowsky ought be a developer. And there is nothing our communities and overbuilt country needs more today than .......more housing. The insanity of 2000-2006 apparently escaped MS. Schakowsky. You know, the more time she spent in the Congo, the better off I think our district might be. Can I get your bags MS. Schakowsky?

And I think it's just great that someone elected to represent our district...is spending time on the other side of the PLANET...worrying about crap that has nothing to do with the people of Evanston and Skokie. Yup, that's why people voted her in for another term. Did you have a pleasant trip MS. Schakowsky? I hope the weather was good. Did you have enough time to get a little shopping done? How about you make a pilgrimage to Afghanistan or Pakistan and fight for women's rights over there? Better yet, let's get you a flak jacket, a kevlar lid and an M-4 or M-16 and you can really put the pedal to the metal. Show em' you mean business!!! Gloria can be your ammo schlepper. What is it that that New Trier High School grad John Stossel is so fond of saying? Oh yeah, " C'mon gimme a break" "Hucksters"...such a great word.
