Residents, Village React to Referendum No-Vote on Willow Rd. Stormwater Tunnel

A non-binding referendum was voted down during the last election by voters-the village is now determining how to handle flooding issues in Winnetka, Winnetka Talk reports.

Slightly more than 30-percent of registered voters in Winnetka cast their ballots for the non-binding referendum relating to the Willow Road stormwater tunnel, and the answer from the majority was, no.

Village President Gene Greable expressed concerns at the most recent village council meeting that it was unclear what 54-percent of voters didn't approve of; the cost, project size, preference for an alternate plan, or simply a lack of information, Winnetka Talk reported.

A resident group called Protect Our Water Winnetka offered their assistance in helping to find a solution for flooding issues, the article states.

Village officials said public discussion would be open in May, along with final reports from consultants on plans for the projected $34 million project, according to Winnetka Talk.
