Lt. Governor Names Morrison, Drury to Gun Panel

New state senator, representative will serve with on Lt. Gov. Simon’s Firearms Working Group. Morrison also named to five committees.

State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) and state Rep. Scott Drury (D-Highwood) were named to Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon’s Firearms Working Group this week to help the state craft responsible gun policy.

Drury and Morrison will work with other freshmen members of the Illinois General Assembly of both parties. They will meet with stakeholders like the Illinois Rifle Association, the Brady PAC, the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence, mental health professionals, gun manufacturers and crime victims.

“When it comes to this issue, the legislature has no time to lose, Morrison said in a news release. “I hope that we can reach a consensus that allows for responsible gun ownership with commonsense safety measures. The conversation needs to move from gun control to public safety.”

Morrison has already sponsored legislation dealing with the reporting of lost or stolen handguns to law enforcement.

Last week, Morrison was appointed to serve on the appropriations, education, environmental, human services and state government and veterans’ affairs committees. “These committees reflect the interests of the 29th District,” she said. “I look forward to improving education in Illinois and restoring ethics in state government.”

You can lead a Lt. Governor to water, but you can't get a picture of her.

An amusing lineup since Rep. Drury's response to a recent petition says he has not seen any proposed legislation (how can that be???) but is qualified because he used to "prosecute gun crimes". Hmmm. Looking at Chicago murder statistics it would seem the job of prosecuting criminals for gun crimes is not done, but Drury feels his time is better spent restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens. Really? The Illinois Democrat party leadership (and probably the White House) will continue telling this panel exactly what to say, and will continue telling the people how only their agenda will prevail. I wonder if this panel has read any of the court decisions that reaffirm our 2nd Amendment rights to keep and bear arms. Is their purpose to work with those rulings or to find more Acevedo-style ways to work around them?

Thank You, well stated and correct. In HuffPo,the headline read 94% of people arrested for shootings in Chicago, never go to trial. Only 25% of Chicago Murders are solved. Think about that.... The Governor shut down Mental Health Facilities and so did Mayor Emanuel. With more Mentally Ill people loose on the streets and more Gang Members in Chicago(100,000) than in any other City in America, what do you think will happen? It is happening, right now!

Lets blame the guns for what people do, lets not blame the people for their criminal actions. This is the illogical position of these Progressive Liberals, yet they sqeal like pigs and run for the hills if they get scared, by a noise.
