Construction Season Extends into the Fall

The Village of Northfield's manhole reconstruction on Old Willow Road will bring detours and delays for the beginning of the school year.

School may be starting soon, but construction season isn’t over yet. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is gearing up to start construction on a new manhole structure in Old Willow Road just north of Willow Road.  So along with new carpools and after-school activities, this fall will bring some more traffic congestion and detours.

“They have an existing sanitary sewer structure on the north west side of Willow Road and Old Willow Road near the Shell station that needs to be replaced,” Northfield Village Manager Stacy Alberts Sigman said in an email.

Kenny Construction designed the prospective plan and will begin construction shortly, though no exact date has been given. During construction, the two southbound lanes and a portion of the northbound lane will be closed.  One northbound lane will remain open at all times next to the work site.  Expect traffic delays and detours onto Wagner and Willow Roads for six to eight weeks while Kenny Construction completes the project.

“The Village has worked to make sure the schools are aware of the closure as the detour redirects motorists to Wagner Road which is where Middlefork School is located,” Sigman continued.
