Carry Buck to Retire from WHOA - For Now

The Winnetka Home Owners Association leader Carry Buck announced plans for the organization to go "back into the woodwork," 20 years after it started.

While the Winnetka Home Owners Association (WHOA) may be one of the most dividing organizations in the Village, there's no doubt that its had it's affect on the community — whether it was pushing for the election of specific local candidates or sending out email blasts to it's over 2,000 subscribers.

But it just may be the end of an era, as WHOA founder and co-manager (along with Ann Dillon) Carry Buck announced plans to retire for the time being, according to a recent article by the Chicago Tribune.

"We're definitely going back in the woodwork, unless something really important comes up," Buck told the Tribune. "We really feel the village is in good hands now." Buck, who recently sold her home, said she'd move to Florida for a month before returning and finding a smaller home in Winnetka.

Throughout the years, WHOA has been especially vocal concerning issues directly affecting home owners — whether it was historic preservation 20 years ago or the issue of affordable housing (which the organization is against) these past few years.

"I never saw anything wrong with telling the truth and letting people make their own decisions," Buck told the Tribune, noting that WHOA's email blasts are sent out to 2,700 people.

There is no word yet if someone else will step up to head WHOA after Carry steps down.
