Winnetka Police Blotter: Juvenile Criminal Damage, Social Security Theft

A summary of incidents from Oct. 9 - Oct. 16.

The  provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

October 16

Criminal damage – A man discovered the rear window of his vehicle was damaged while parked in his driveway on the 1200 block of Westmoor Road. The damage occurred sometime between 4 p.m. on Oct. 14 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 16.

Battery – Peter J. Elsen, 30, of Buffalo Grove, was arrested for battery after a Metra train conductor reported he was pushed by Elsen when exiting the train. Elsen left the area and was later located by an officer and taken into custody. His court date is scheduled for Dec. 1.

October 15

Theft – A cab driver reported an unknown female subject was dropped off on the 1000 block of Fisher Lane but failed to pay her cab fare. The driver told police the woman went to retrieve her purse inside the residence and did not come out again. The investigation is ongoing.

October 14

Identity theft – A man discovered his social security number was used to file an income tax return for last year. The IRS informed the man that the return came from an address in New York. No money has been reported lost at this time. 

Traffic arrest – Jesus E. Ponce De La Riva, 26, of Chicago, was arrested for driving without a valid driver’s license. The arrest was made while police investigated a motorist assist at the intersection of Hibbard and Willow roads. His court date is scheduled for Nov. 3.

October 13

Burglary – A victim discovered that unknown subjects entered the victim's residence on the 500 block of Provident Avenue between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Gold jewelry was removed from the residence.

Traffic arrest – Stanko Waldemar, 34, of Elk Grove Village, was arrested for driving without a valid driver’s license and using a handheld cell phone while driving. The arrest was made subsequent to a traffic stop at the intersection of Willow Road and Glendale Avenue. His court date is scheduled for Dec. 1.

October 11

Identity theft – A woman discovered several unauthorized purchases on her Saks Fifth Avenue credit card, tracing back to Orlando, FL. Specific dates and times are unknown.

October 10 

Criminal damage – An officer discovered graffiti on several walls of the Willow Road underpass. Public works was notified for its removal.

October 9

Criminal damage – Two juveniles notified the Winnetka Police Department that their vehicles had been damaged by the other. Both parties, along with their parents, are not pursuing criminal charges.
