Winnetka Police Blotter: $9,000 Jewelry Theft, Burglary, DUI

The following information was supplied by the Winnetka Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

April 16

DUI: A 28-year-old woman from Wood Dale was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in the 600 block of Hibbard Road at 1:37 a.m. also cited her for improper lane use and improper turning. Her court date is May 25.

Theft: A resident in the 200 block of Winnetka Avenue reported that someone took $9,000 worth of jewelry from her home between March 23 and April 13.  The jewelry includes one gold and amber ring, several pairs of gold earrings, one solid gold bead necklace, one thin gold tennis bracelet with diamonds and sapphires, one gold open link chain with charms on it, and one gold bracelet with children’s names on gold blocks.

April 19

Graffiti: A police officer found graffiti on sidewalks in the 100 block of Woodlawn Avenue; on the Winnetka Avenue side of New Trier High School; and on the stop sign at the southeast corner of Sunset and Woodlawn at 8:10 a.m. The Public Works Department was notified for removal. The repair costs are $350.

Graffiti: A public works employee found graffiti on a stop sign near 12 Indian Hill Road at 4:41 p.m. The Public Works Department was notified for removal. The repair costs are $150.

April 20

Theft: A student reported that someone took her cell phone while she was in class at New Trier High School, 385 Winnetka Ave. The black Apple iPhone, with a damaged back, was left unattended in the hallway between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. The amount of loss is $500.

April 21

Burglary: An officer found an open garage window with a window screen forcibly removed after responding to a house alarm at 11:42 a.m. in the 800 block of Sheridan Road. The homeowner came to the house and determined that nothing was missing, and police do not believe anyone entered the home. The repair costs are $75.

April 22

DUI: A 19-year-old man from Wilmette was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in the 800 block of Eldorado Street. He was also cited for improper lane usage. His court date is May 25.
