Winnetka Police Blotter: $5,500 Ring Switched in Transit, Theft

From aggravated battery to damaged planters, these are the latest reports from the Winnetka Police Department.

Jewelry Theft

A resident in the 300 block of Auburn Avenue discovered between June 8 and Sept. 19 someone removed various pieces of jewelry from the master bedroom. The loss was estimated at $6,000.

A woman told police several pieces of jewelry that she mailed out of state for sale or trade purposes were replaced with different ones when she received the jewelry back. The woman noticed the original ring was replaced with a different one. The amount of loss was estimated at $5,500.

Theft at New Trier High School

A victim discovered at 2:34 p.m., Sept. 19, that someone removed her unsecured iPhone from the student library at New Trier Township High School. The loss is estimated at $300.

Theft Arrest

Mario L. Henderson, 37, of 9044 Skokie Blvd., Skokie, was arrested Sept. 21 on a 2011 Winnetka theft warrant at his residence by Skokie police. Henderson was transported to Winnetka Police Department, processed and released on bond. He was issued an Oct. 17 court date.

Check Theft

A blank check was stolen from a home in the 1200 block of Chatfield Road between 9 a.m. on Sept. 12 and 4:30 p.m. on Sept 23. The offender forged and then cashed the check. The amount of loss is estimated at $500.

Damaged Planters

Two concrete planters in the 700 block of Elm Street were damaged between 11:30 p.m. and 11:55 p.m. on Sept. 16. The loss is estimated at $100.

Fake ID

A 15-year-old teen from the New Trier Township area was cited for possession of a fictitious identification card in the 300 block of Winnetka Ave. She was issued an Oct. 25 court date.

Identity Theft

A resident in the 100 block of Green Bay Road discovered on Sept. 20 that unknown offender wired funds from his personal bank account to an out of state bank account without authorization. The loss is estimated in excess of $10,000. Police are investigating the case.

Driving Under the Influence

Patrick L. Wilkinson, 40, of 9347 78th St., Hickory Hills, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol Sept. 23 following a traffic stop in the 600 block of Cherry Street. He was issued an Oct. 10 court date.

Driving Violations

Miguel A. Soto-Ramirez, 20, of 6930 Green View, Chicago, was arrested Sept. 17 for driving without a valid driver’s license following a traffic stop in the 700 block of Walden Road. Soto-Ramirez was also cited for improper lane usage. He was issued an Oct. 10 court date.
