Winnetka Police Blotter: $1,900 Loss in Craigslist Deal; Theft From Locker

A summary of incidents reported from June 27-July 2.

The Winnetka Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

DUI

A 27-year-old man from Winnetka was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at Green Bay and Tower roads on June 27. Police stopped his vehicle over a traffic infraction. The motorist was also charged him with driving with an expired driver's license and speeding.

Theft

Items were taken from a bag in an unsecured locker on June 27 along. An iPhone valued at $200 was stolen and $40 was removed from a wallet while inside a locker room at 385 Winnetka Ave.

A wire-transfer theft of about $1,900 was reported on June 28. The transaction allegedly occurred in response to a Craigslist rental ad for a property out of state. However, the victim arrived at the property to find it had already been rented, and the offender who placed the online ad could not be found. The transaction occurred between Jan. 4 and Feb. 28.

A employee at 510 Green Bay Rd. found people taking items, such as a radiator unit valued at $100, from a Dumpster bin on June 28. Police suggested the intruders stay off the property, but no other enforcement was requested.

A wallet and GPS device were taken from an unlocked vehicle on June 30 it the 100 block of Essex. The vehicle had been parked overnight in a driveway. The wallet reportedly contained a driver's license, Social Security card and two debit cards. The total lost was estimated at $139.

An unlocked bike was taken from a bike rack at 515 Hibbard Rd. on June 30. The missing bike is a blue and white boy's Trek Mountain 200 model. The estimated lost is $300.

Graffiti

A police officer found graffiti spray painted on the north and south walls of the Willow Road underpass on July 2. The Public Works Department was notified to send out a removal crew.
