Winnetka Blotter: Stolen Jewelry; Kids and Campfire

A summary of crimes reported in Winnetka from Sept. 6-14.

The following items are taken from the Winnetka Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Criminal damage Police responded to a report of broken windows in the 800 block of Bryant Avenue. According to the report, the owner suspected the damage occurred between Aug. 20-Sept. 2. The damage is estimated at $2,000.

Theft  Police received a report of numerous pieces of jewelry missing from a resident in the 100 block of Indian Hill Road. The victim believes the jewelry was taken between Sept. 8-9, according to police.

Theft  Police received a report of a bicycle stolen from a bike rack in a parking lot at 858 Green Bay Rd. The bike is described as a men's 21-speed light blue and white Magna mountain bike, estimated to be worth $600. According to police reports, the bike was stolen Aug. 20 between 6-8 p.m.

Juvenile Nuisance  Officers responded to a caller who reported that youths at a park possibly lighting a campfire in the 1000 block of Hubbard Place at 2:34 p.m.

Theft  Police were notified that a backpack was stolen from the boys' locker room at New Trier Township High School between 3:20-5:30 p.m. According to reports, the black Swiss army backpack contained a cell phone, iPod Touch and school identification.

Sept. 10

Theft  A resident of the 1100 block of Taylorsport Lane reported $4,000 in missing cash. The victim told police that the cash might have disappeared between July 14-Aug. 14. An investigation is ongoing.

Burglary  A resident in the 100 block of de Windt Road reported missing jewelry. The victim said a burglary occurred between Sept. 2-10. According to police, the house was under renovation at the time. The investigation is ongoing.

Sept. 11

Noise Complaint  Officers responded to a call reporting loud banging noise at 9:42 p.m. in the 800 block of Lamson Drive. Officers reported that the area was quiet when they arrived.

Noise Complaint  Officers received a report of fireworks-like sounds near the 300 block of Linden Avenue. Officers responded and reported that the area was quiet.
