Winnetka Blotter: Hydrant Flushing Sign, iPad, Jewelry Stolen

From Winnetka businesses receiving bad checks to cannabis activity, the following are the latest reports from the Winnetka Police Department.

Hydrant Flushing Sign Stolen

A “ Hydrant Flushing this week” sign bolted to a barricade near Willow Road and Wilson Street was reported stolen on Oct. 1. The loss was estimated at $100.

iPad, Jewelry, Cash Stolen from Homes

A black Apple iPad valued at $800 was stolen from a home in the 1000 block of Ash Street. The item was discovered missing after the victim saw an unknown male subject inside the house and exit through the rear door. The offender may have gained access from unlocked front and rear doors. Police are still investigating the case. 

Jewelry and $300 in cash were stolen from a home in the 1300 block of Sunview Lane between 11 a.m. and 11:28 a.m. on Oct. The cash was stolen from a purse left in the kitchen and the jewelry from the upstairs master bedroom. Police reports show offenders may have gained entry through an unlocked garage door. The loss is estimated at $400. 

Woman Arrested for Burglary to Motor Vehicle

Tyshawn A. Ferguson, 23, of 3020 W. Washington, Chicago, was arrested Oct. 3 for burglary to motor vehicle following a 911 call reporting a subject seen breaking out a car window in a the parking lot at 100 Northwestern Drive. She was issued a Oct. 4 court date. 

Identity Theft

A victim discovered on Sept. 30 at 8:45 a.m. someone made an unauthorized withdraw from his checking account at an unknown ATAM station in Winnetka. The loss is estimated at $500. 

Three Bad Checks

A business at 802 Elm Street reported receiving three checks from a frozen account between Aug. 26 and Aug. 30. The loss is estimated at $297.13. 

Graffiti on Green Bay Road Tunnel

Police officers discovered the south tunnel wall at 199 Green Bay Road defaced with black graffiti on Oct. 3. The Public Works Department was notified to remove the graffiti and the repair costs are unknown.

Cannabis Activity

A 16-year-old teen from New Trier Township was cited for possession of cannabis on Oct. 5 in the 100 block of Ridge Ave. He was issued a Nov. 20 court date. 

Traffic Arrest

A 17-year-old from Winthrop Harbor was arrested Oct. 6 for driving with a suspended driver’s license following a traffic stop in the 300 block of Green Bay Road. He was also cited for failure to signal when required. He was issued a Nov. 20 court date.
